“Wait, you’re still in the tree?” a confused KVUE-TV news anchor asked Kerry Packer when he called in to share his experience during last weekend’s flooding. At the time of the live interview Packer was indeed “about 20 feet up a tree,” and besides feeling a little cold he assured the news anchors he was fine. “I did Boy Scouts for 20 years so I know how to keep my energy up and keep warm,” Packer said.
Packer jumped out of his window and climbed the tree after his car was carried what he estimated to be “half a mile into the woods” by flooding in the Onion Creek area. In an effort to update his wife on his current situation Packer also videotaped his car filling with water, and his position atop the tree where he waited for nearly five hours before being rescued.
When asked what his wife thought about the whole situation Packer said, “She’s glad I climbed a lot of trees when I was a kid.”
