Storm Desmond‘s record rainfall and 100 mph plus winds have caused severe flooding on the beautiful island of Ireland, leaving nearly 2,000 people without power and dozens stranded. And one sad, wet donkey.
Rescuers in Kerry, Ireland were first notified of the donkey’s unfortunate situation when they received a call saying “SOS: Donkey in danger of drowning.” A local man, however, took matters into his own hands when he hopped in his boat and made his way through the floodwaters to the donkey.
Although a struggle, the man was able to get a life preserver around the neck of the donkey and tow him back to safety. The donkey was later returned to his owners and renamed Mike, in honor of his rescuer. How does a donkey show gratitude? The same way as most it seems. The donkey appears to smile gratefully in a photo that has since won the heart of the Internet.
