Cannes is known for its rich, famous residents, its prestigious annual film festival and its beautiful beaches. However, due to recent flooding the French resort town has a new “thing” — its rats. After severe flooding in the French Riviera earlier this month, residents have noticed an influx in the region’s least glamorous resident. The beaches of Cannes have been overtaken by rats. “In the evenings we don’t feel safe because of all these rats,” one resident said. The rats have taken to the beaches after the flooding forced them out of their homes in the town’s sewers. Cannes is currently hosting a major cleanup operation to restore the beaches to their rat-less beauty.
