Texas has been experiencing massive rainfall in the past 24 hours, leading to numerous water rescues. A reporter on the scene of a flooded-out street just northwest of downtown Houston stepped in to help a man get out of rising water, according to area TV station ABC 13.
KTRK reporter Steve Campion was standing on the edge of a flooded street that passes under Interstate 10 in Houston when a car drove into the high water and began floating.
Campion can be heard asking someone offscreen “What do we do?”
“Dude, you gotta get out of the car,” Campion yelled to the driver of the vehicle who was attempting to escape.
As seen in video footage, the driver opens his passenger-side door and asks what he should do when Campion responds to swim and leave the car. After a moment, the man begins to swim as Campion wades into the chest-deep water to give the man a hand.
Still in reporting mode, Campion asks the man if he is okay and whether he thought the water was deep.
“Yeah, I didn’t think the water was that deep,” the man said. “My car is under.”
